{"id":19093,"date":"2017-11-10T19:11:30","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T13:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.resellerclub.com\/?p=19093"},"modified":"2025-10-24T12:07:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T12:07:16","slug":"how-to-install-the-epel-repository-on-centos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.resellerclub.com\/blog\/how-to-install-the-epel-repository-on-centos\/","title":{"rendered":"How to install the EPEL repository on CentOS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This blog explains what the EPEL repository is and how to install it on CentOS.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What is the EPEL repository?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EPEL (or Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) Repository is a free and open-source repository which provides high-quality and easy-to-install add-on packages for commonly-used software.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before we begin, <\/span><b>here are a few terms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to brush up on:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Wget<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-or \u2018web get\u2019-a command-line utility to download content over a network<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Red Hat Enterprise Linux\/Fedora\/CentOS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : are Linux distributions that group their software together in packages, referred to as RPM Package Manager (RPM).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19095\" src=\"https:\/\/www.resellerclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/rpm-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"171\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>YUM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Yellowdog Updater, modified The primary tool for managing the Red Hat Enterprise Linux software packages through a &nbsp;command-line interface.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The repository may contain packages that are unavailable in the core repository or updates that haven\u2019t been installed yet for &nbsp;Linux distributions like :<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CentOS<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fedora (The &nbsp;runs the EPEL repository)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientific Linux<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oracle Linux<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.resellerclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/centos-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"387\" height=\"130\"><\/p>\n<h3><b>How to install the EPEL repository on CentOS 7<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CentOS 7 is the latest version of the Linux distribution and is the easiest to install the repository on. A large number of hosting packages by ResellerClub come with CentOS such as Single and Multi domain shared hosting, Reseller Hosting, Dedicated hosting and VPS. For a few that do not support CentOS, you can still install it on the distributor list mentioned above.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To install the EPEL repository, you must be the root user:-<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can enable the command with:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: black;\">\n<p><code><\/code><br \/>\n<strong>yum install epel-release<\/strong><br \/>\n<kbd><\/kbd><br \/>\n<var><\/var><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s it.
