.AI Domain Name Rules and Requirements

This article explains the registration, renewal, transfer, and DNS requirements for .AI domain names. It also covers name server limits, child name server configuration, and supported features such as DNSSEC and domain privacy.

.AI Domain Registration:

• Must use: 1-63 characters
• Can use: Letters (a-z characters), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (except in the 1st or last characters of the domain name)
• Cannot use: Special characters (e.g., & and #)
• IDNs: Not supported
• Registration Tenure: 2 years
• DNSSEC: Supported
  
  

Renewal and Auto-Renewal:

• Renewal Tenure: 2,4,6,8 and 10 years (Currently only supports 2 years, can be renewed 4 times)
• If you have auto-renewal enabled, we’ll attempt to charge the associated payment method and renew your .ai domain on its expiration date.
• If auto-renew fails or isn't enabled at all, we’ll park your .ai domain. A parked domain will display a temporary web page when the domain name is entered in a web browser.
• If the domain isn't manually renewed within 40 days following expiration, we will cancel it and remove it from your account.

• Transfer to Us: Not supported
• Transfer away from Us: Not supported
• Domain Privacy-Protection: Supported

Name Servers and Child Name Servers:

• Each .AI domain name needs to have at least 2 Name Servers and may have up to 13 Name Servers.
• There is no limitation on the number of Child Name Servers you may create.
• You may associate up to 13 IP Address per Child Name Server.
• You may associate IPv6 Address in Child Name Servers.
• You may modify both Name Servers as well as any Child Name Servers associated with your .AI domain name.
