Fix “Invalid Domain Name for Contact Type” Error in ccTLD Registration
When domain registration fails with an “Invalid Domain Name for Contact Type” error. This article explains the contact validation rules required for certain country-code domains.
If you place a ccTLD registration (.CO, .CA, .ES etc) via the Supersite or API & get the following error: Invalid domain name For Given ContactType, it means that you have used an invalid contact (General Contact) while registering the ccTLD.
ccTLDs must be associated with country-specific contacts only.
Error format: Via Orderbox/ Supersite: error: Invalid domainName For Given ContactType Via API: hashtable: statuserrorerrorInvalid domainName For Given ContactType
For Example - While registering a .CO domain:
- you need to create & assign .CO contacts.
- If you use a General Contact, then you will face the error: Invalid domainName For Given ContactType
General contacts are meant for gTLDs, not ccTLDs.
Note While creating country specific contacts, please make sure that the Zip code/Postal code is correct. The Telephone number must have the correct country code & it must be valid.
