Fix “Not a Valid Nameserver” Error for Custom Name Servers

When your custom name server shows a “Not a Valid Nameserver” error. This article explains how to correct name server registration and configuration.

Issue:

You may encounter the below error while trying to register Domain names via the Supersite.

Error: Unsuccessful Order Summary
           yourdomain.com
          NameServer ns4.yourdomain.com is not a valid Nameserver

This usually happens when the Reseller/Customer has set Invalid Name servers as default Name servers in their control panel. An Invalid Nameserver is one that is not registered at the registry.

Solution:

In order to rectify the issue, you can either register the namesevers as branded Name Servers which would make the nameservers valid as well.

You can follow the below steps to rectify the issue:

  • For Reseller:
  1. Log into your Reseller Control panel >> Setting >> Products >> Domain Registration >> Default Nameserver info.
  2. Remove the Invalid Name server(s) from the fields and click Submit. (Performing this step will automatically use your partially branded Name servers for domain registration purposes).
  • For Customer:
  1. Log into your Customer Control panel >> Settings >> Domain Specific >> Default information.
  2. Remove the Invalid Name servers from the fields and click Submit (Performing this step will automatically use your Resellers default Name servers for domain registration purposes).

Please Note: You may have to clear the browser cache if you still encounter the error after you make the changes.
