Fix “Object Association Prohibits Operation” Error for Child Name Servers
When deleting a child name server fails due to domain association issues. This article explains how to identify and remove linked domain associations.
Issue :
You may receive this error while trying to delete certain Child Name Servers. The reason you receive this error is becasue these Child Name Servers are being used by other Domian names as Authoritative Name Servers. Hence, the error "association prohibits operation".
Solution :
You will first have to change the name servers of those Domain(s) that are using these Child Name Servers as their Authoritative Name Servers to some other Name Servers. You can then try deleting the Child Name Servers and you should not face any error.
Checking for Domain names using these Child Name Servers as their Authoritative Name Servers :
These are the steps to locate the Domain names using these Child Name Servers as their Authoritative Name Servers :
- Go to Products
- Domain Registration
- Search
- Select the 'Order Creation Date' as within 'All (Slowest Search)'
- In the 'Containing Nameservers' section enter the Child Name Server you want to check for
- Check the 'Search Orders of Sub-Resellers' Check Box
- Click on 'Search'
The search results will display a list of names for which the Child Name Servers are being used as NameServers. You would need to disassociate these from the domain names by modifying the NameServers of these domains. Thereafter, you will be able to delete the Child Name Servers.

NOTE: In some cases, even after you have disassociated the NameServers, you may still continue receiving the error. Or you may not receive any results for domains that have associated the Child Name Servers as their NameServers. |
