How to Manage FTP Accounts in Plesk

When you want to create, modify, or delete FTP accounts in Plesk. This article explains how to manage FTP access, including user permissions, directories, and storage limits.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to manage your website's files on the server. You can create, manage and delete FTP accounts from the Plesk panel.
 

Creating an FTP Account

  • Login to your Plesk panel >> Websites and Domains >> FTP Access.
  • In Add FTP Account, mention the following details:
 
 
 
Option
Description
FTP account name
Enter the desired name for your FTP Account
Home directory
FTP account access is limited to the directory mentioned in this field. The FTP account can access the mentioned directory and all of its subdirectories. By default a user has access to / for the Subscription. Alternatively, click the folder icon, and then select the directory.
New password
Enter a strong password of your choice or use the Generate option to generate a random password.
Confirm password
Confirm the password again. This field will be autofilled if you use the Generate option.
Hard disk quota
Set the amount of disk space in MB for the FTP user or check the Unlimited checkbox to assign unlimited Hard Disk Quota.
Read permission
If checked, it allows FTP user to view contents and download files from the home directory.
Write permission
If checked, it allows FTP user to create, view, rename and delete directories in the home directory.
Click OK
Plesk creates a new FTP account.

 

Modifying an FTP Account

 

  • Login to your Plesk panel >> Websites and Domains >> FTP Access.
  • The existing FTP Accounts can be managed or modified from the FTP Accounts page. Click on the FTP Account username you want to manage. The following functions can be performed:
  1. Change FTP account name.
  2. Change the home directory.
  3. Change the FTP user password.
  4. Change Hard Disk quota.
  5. Change Read and Write permission.
 

Deleting an FTP Account

 
  • Login to your Plesk panel >> Websites and Domains >> FTP Access.
  • To remove an FTP Account, check the checkbox corresponding to the FTP Account username you wish to remove and click Remove. At the prompt, click Yes.
