RAA Email Verification and Domain Suspension Rules

When your domain is suspended because email verification was not completed. This article explains RAA email verification rules and how they affect domain status.

When you register a domain name as a new registrant on our platform, you are required to verify your email address with us within 15 days of becoming the registrant of your domain name(s). This process is called as "RAA Verification".

As a part of this process, an email is sent to the registrant's email address. This email contains a unique verification link which must be accessed within 15 days from the date the email was received, failing which the domain name(s) associated your email address would be suspended.

To explain this in more details, RAA verification will be initiated for all domain names that are associated with an unverified registrant email address. This said, if the registrant email address is modified on an existing domain name, and if the new email address has not been verified with us, then RAA verification will be initiated and must be completed within 15 days to avoid suspension of the domain name.

If you have multiple domain names, then a separate 15 days period will be assigned for each domain name. But you need to verify your email address just once. The system will automatically update the verification status on all other domain names which are associated with that email address.

A domain name that has been suspended due to RAA verification failure will have it's name servers changed to the following at the registry:

  • ns1.verification-hold.suspended-domain.com
  • ns2.verification-hold.suspended-domain.com

The domain name would resolve to a webpage that displays the following message:

This Domain Name is Suspended

Here's a screenshot of how the page would look like:

Once the RAA verification is completed, the suspension would be removed and the domain would start pointing to the original name servers again. However, it may take a few hours more for the domain to start resolving to your website as it usually takes some time for DNS propagation.

If the current registrant email address is invalid or if you are unable to receive the RAA verification email, then you need to change the email address and complete the verification. This, however, may lead to another verification process known as IRTP-C which must be completed for the changes to take effect.
