    SNMP acts like a special language that helps computer networks communicate with each other. Imagine it as a messenger that runs between different computer devices, checking how they are doing and making sure everything works smoothly. 

    Network managers use SNMP to monitor their computer networks. It helps them spot problems early, understand what is happening in the network, and fix things quickly.

    Understanding Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Process

    How does SNMP work? Think of it as a conversation between two people, A and B. A (called the SNMP manager) asks a question, and B (the SNMP agent) answers. 

    When the manager wants to know something about a computer or network device, it sends an SNMP get request. The device then checks its own information and sends back an answer, helping managers understand what is happening within the network.

    SNMP Vs ICMP

    SNMP is like a detailed network manager with potential SNMP vulnerabilities to watch out for. It gathers data about network devices, evaluates their health, and enables remote control. 

    ICMP, on the other hand, is more like a quick messenger. Its main job is to send error messages and operational information about network conditions. It is the protocol that tells you when a network connection fails or a device can not be reached, with fewer security concerns compared to SNMP.

    Types of Connection in SNMP

    SNMP has two main ways of communicating with devices. First, there is the SNMP get request, which is used for queries such as “What is your current status?” Then there is the SNMP set request, which is used for giving instructions – “Please change this setting for me.” 

    These two methods let network managers check on devices and make changes from far away without having to be right next to the computer.
