How does HTTPS work to protect our online data? HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) encrypts data exchange between web browsers and servers. When you visit a secure website, HTTPS working involves a digital handshake that establishes an encrypted connection.

This encryption ensures that sensitive information and personal data remain confidential and protected from potential attackers who might try to intercept the communication.

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Process

Understanding how HTTP protocol works is crucial for web security. The process begins when your browser requests a secure connection to a website. In response, the host sends its SSL/TLS certificate, which contains its public key.

Your browser verifies this certificate’s authenticity and generates a unique session key. This session key, encrypted with the server’s public key, enables secure data exchange. HTTPS work continues throughout your browsing session, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.

    HTTP vs HTTPS

While HTTP sends data in clear text, which makes it easy to intercept, HTTPS how it works involves additional security layers. What makes them different is how they protect data.

How does HTTP authentication work? In HTTP, authentication credentials are sent as plain text, making them easily readable if intercepted.

HTTPS, however, encrypts this information using SSL/TLS protocols, providing a secure tunnel for data transmission and protecting against man-in-the-middle attacks.

    Types of Connection in HTTP

HTTP connections can be either persistent or non-persistent. In persistent connections, multiple requests and responses can be sent over a single TCP connection, improving performance. Non-persistent connections require a new TCP connection for each request-response pair.

Both types support HTTPS working principles when implemented with proper security protocols. The choice between connection types depends on specific application needs and security requirements, but both can be secured through HTTPS implementation.
