    Wondering how does ARP work? ARP, or Address Resolution Protocol, helps your device ask, “Hey, who has this IP address?” It sends a message to everyone on the network, and the right device replies with its MAC address. 

    This way, your message knows exactly where to go. ARP makes communication smooth by connecting IP addresses to physical addresses, like a map for your network.

    Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Process

    Here’s how the Address Resolution Protocol works:

    1. Your device sends an ARP request message to all devices on the network.
    2. This message asks, “Who has this IP address?”
    3. The device with that IP answers, “Me! Here’s my MAC address.”
    4. Your device saves this info in its ARP cache for next time.
    5. Now, your message goes straight to the right place!

    ARP vs RARP

    Let’s compare ARP vs RARP. ARP finds a MAC address when you know the IP address. RARP (Reverse ARP) does the opposite: it finds an IP address when you know the MAC address. 

    ARP helps devices talk, while RARP helps new devices get an IP address from a router. Both are useful but work in different directions to keep networks running smoothly.

    Types of Connection in ARP

    There’s Proxy ARP, where a router pretends to be the destination. Gratuitous ARP checks for duplicate IPs. Reverse ARP finds IPs from MACs. Inverse ARP works in special networks like ATMs. 

    Remember to stay careful. ARP spoofing can trick devices, and the ARP packet structure carries the info that makes it all happen!
