I have said this before – Registrars can make for good web hosts. In fact, we at RC always take our Hosting services quite seriously. Having said that, I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not perfect, but we’re getting there. I can also state for a fact that you will see a lot of changes and additions to our Hosting services within the next 6 months.
Last Saturday, was another step in the right direction. Along with several changes to our Control Panel UI, we also made two important modifications:
- Telescopic Pricing for Hosting – which allows you to offer automated discounts to your Customers if they purchase Hosting for a longer duration
- Combining Web and Email Hosting – now we have three basic plans – Linux plus Email, Windows plus Email and Email only Hosting
I was talking to one of our partners yesterday and he mentioned how happy he was with the second change mentioned above (thanks Jason) – and I thought of sharing that here.
With Web and Email offered as a single product, you can now charge a unified price for both of them, and a separate price for Email only. Before this, whatever price you set for your Email only plan would automatically get added to the Web Hosting plan, if your Customer wanted both.
With this change, you can now price your Web & Email Hosting plan competitively, and still charge a slightly higher price for Email only plans. One of the reasons for doing this (as discussed yesterday) is to discourage spammers, which you could not do earlier as you had to set pricing considering the price of the combined package.
Secondly, you would want to encourage your Customers to go the whole nine yards in any case, because just Email will never give you the same profit as Web plus Email.
